Moldova's International Stock Exchange (BIMx) was officially launched on Monday in Chisinau, in the presence of Moldova's Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalisation Claudiu Nasui.
The new platform of Moldova's capital market , developed in partnership with Romania's Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), is expected to start trading in the coming months, after the completion of the admission process of brokers and issuers.
"Moldova will have a capital market that investors will enter with confidence, because it is transparent, liquid and connected to Europe. The arguments for investing in Moldova are becoming more and more solid. We have a clear direction towards European integration. And capital markets are part of this journey. A functional stock exchange is not a luxury. It is an essential infrastructure. It is the way in which companies have access to capital for growth, through which local administrations finance development and through which citizens turn their economies into common prosperity. We aim to accelerate the growth of the capitalisation of the stock market, with a special focus on liquidity and the development of the secondary market. BIMx is built exactly for this moment. Today, we are starting the process of admitting brokers and issuers. Once the procedures are completed, in a few months' time, we will start trading. And now we invite investors to join us," said the general manager of BIMx, Veronica Arpintin.
She added that BIMx currently has a share capital of EUR 1.5 million, which could be increased, by the end of 2026, to EUR 3 million.
"This year, we plan to increase the share capital of BIMx from EUR 1.5 million to EUR 3 million. We already have letters of intent for EUR 1.1 million. Thus EUR 0.5 million remain available. We are actively looking for institutional investors and strategic partners to participate. It is a direct invitation to those in this room who believe in the capital market in Moldova," Arpintin added.
According to her, the new stock exchange will bring advantages to both companies and the state.
"To companies, it means access to capital, access to best practices and an additional source of financing. To the country, it means a stronger, healthier and more resilient financial system. For investors, it means access to Moldovan companies and, in a broader sense, to Moldova's economy - and it is a market built on the values that Moldova adopts as it advances towards the European Union. A modern capital market is built on trust, transparency and efficiency," added the director general of BIMx.
