National leader of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor on Monday said that the parties have not overcome last week's deadlock in terms of designating a government with full powers.

"From my point of view, things are very simple: the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Social Democratic Party (PSD) must reach a certain agreement, a certain compromise, if we want to overcome this moment. Because if PSD does not vote for a government of which the PSD is not a part, that means that there is no majority. If PNL does not vote for anything other than I don't know what government of technocrats, then we do not have a majority. So, we have not overcome last week's blockage, because these conditions still leave us no room for manoeuvre," Kelemen said in Parliament.

When PNL and PSD reach a common conclusion, UDMR will vote for that government, which will have the support of the two parties for the investiture.

"And then there is a majority. I can't make another solution today. If I can help somewhere, let's talk, anytime - today, tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow I'm here - but I have nothing else to tell you. Beyond the fact that a former president, the best product of the communist dictatorship, a political product, also of the communist secret police said to keep us away from politics. OK, Petrov should come and solve the problem," said Kelemen.

According to the UDMR leader, there are not even discussions about the possibility of voting for a minority government of any type.

"At this moment, I have the impression that we are not even in the phase in which the possibility of voting for a minority government of any type is discussed, because so far I have not heard that they would have reached a solution. But, from this point of view, we have not changed and we will not change."

About a technocratic government, he showed that he discussed the matter with PNL's national leader, Ilie Bolojan: "Last time, when I spoke face-to-face with Mr. Bolojan, he told me about this option, he asked me and I told him: it's a problem. If PSD doesn't vote, it's the first problem, PSD can't pass, as PNL drew some red lines and they have to get along. On the other hand, a technocratic government, and I don't know who will measure and with what apparatus, how technocratic and how independent a government is, they still need political support. And, if the next day it is abandoned, that government, unfortunately, will not have the possibility to manage even a budget revision. You can handle revision by an emergency revision ordinance, but you still have to go to Parliament for the budget. And beyond the budget, there is a lot of political projects, government ordinances, bills for public policies, where you have to get along with someone in Parliament. If everyone enters the opposition after voting for a government, a government "measured with a device" to be technocrat one hundred percent, you have done nothing."
